Relief Efforts Rush In To Hurricane Harvey Victims

TEXAS – People from across the nation have sprung into action to help those affected in the path of Hurricane Harvey.

The dramatic storm, reaching category 4, has severely flooded parts of Texas as devastating pictures of water rescues have been surfacing on several news outlets.

Houston faced mass devastation as the storm trekked through the region and has since taken landfall in Louisiana.

People have been forced to leave their homes as shelters throughout Texas are reaching maximum capacity.

Americans across the country are fleeing to the scene to help in any way they can.

Volunteers on scene are assisting in search and rescue relief alongside several local law enforcement agencies working around the clock to save people and animals trapped in the wake of the storm.

Other volunteers are working at shelters, providing comfort and handing out food to victims who have left their homes behind.

Some, have donated money to organizations like the American Red Cross to deliver relief services to the affected regions.

Several Central New York residents have traveled through the American Red Cross to assist those struggling in Texas, including one woman from Fulton.

Margaret Webber of Fulton is listed along with ten other CNY volunteers that have traveled by Emergency Response Vehicle to the Gulf Coast to provide care and comfort to victims of the storm.

“We’re so thankful for the dedication of volunteers who are willing to help those in need,” said Rosie Taravella, Western and Central New York Regional CEO, urging anyone who is interested to submit a volunteer application by visiting redcross.org.

Anyone who wishes to make a donation to the American Red Cross to help people affected by Hurricane Harvey can do so by visiting redcross.org, calling 1- 800-RED CROSS or texting the word HARVEY to 90999 to make a $10 donation. Donations enable the Red Cross to prepare for, respond to, and help people recover from this disaster.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that New York will be assisting those in Texas by dispatching additional National Guard troops to the Gulf Coast after having initially sent 104 aeronautic troops, three HH-60 Pavehawk rescue helicopters, an HC-130 and several boats and watercraft.

Relief efforts will continue rushing into all affected areas as the rain continues to pour before a long road to recovery can even begin.
