Fulton Police spotted a stolen vehicle Sunday night on a city street. That started a pursuit that ended in southern Onondaga County.
The police department reports that Sunday evening, someone alleged that their car had been stolen during the day. At 10:07 p.m., a Fulton police officer spotted the vehicle on S. First St. near Rochester St. and tried to get the driver to pull over.
Instead, the driver headed across the river and turned south onto Route 48. The Sheriff’s Departments of Oswego and Onondaga counties joined the chase, as did State Police, and their helicopter.
The pursuit continued on Route 690, then Route 81.
It ended near Tully when police deployed “stop sticks” — rows of jagged spikes designed to blow the car’s tires.
Inside the car was Terry M. Smith, 26, of Syracuse. He was brought back to Fulton PD to face lots of charges:
- Criminal possession of stolen property;
- Aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle;
- Driving while intoxicated;
- Unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle;
- Criminal possession of a controlled substance;
- Reckless driving.
Smith was being held at the police department pending his arraignment later Monday morning.
