The stone steps replace a steep eroded hillside trail connection.

A grant was awarded from the Oswego County Community Foundation to help fund the construction of the stairs.

With additional funding and services from the town of Volney and Friends of Great Bear, the construction of the stone staircase was made possible.

An adjacent hillside traverse allows for bikers, horses and skiers to continue making the trail connection.

The natural design and construction was done by Fox Creek Landscaping to blend with the landscape and compliment the limestone color of the lock.
