Williamstown Man Arrested For Assault On Infant

FULTON, NY – A Williamstown man was arrested Thursday and charged with several crimes for allegedly causing serious injuries to a 2-month-old child who was in his care earlier this month.Britton

State police investigators from the Fulton barracks arrested Francis F. Britton III, 22, of 11 state Route 104, Williamstown, and charged him with one felony count of first-degree assault, a felony count of first-degree reckless endangerment and a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child.

Police said that a 2-month-old female was admitted to University Hospital May 13 with life-threatening injuries that included acute subdural hematomas, edema of the brain, bilateral retinal hemorrhaging and a fractured rib.

Police were contacted and an investigation into the child’s injuries began.

“The investigation revealed that on or about May 11, 2008, (Britton) while babysitting the child on Volney Street in the village of Phoenix, did subject her to repeated violent acts, which caused her injuries.”

The child remains at University Hospital at this time.

Britton was arraigned by Judge Kenneth Adkins in Scriba Town Court and remanded to the Oswego County Public Safety Building on $10,000 cash, or $20,000 bond. He is slated to reappear in Schroeppel Town Court June 3.
