OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego City-County Youth Bureau is accepting applications for its 2008 mini-grant program.
Funding will be awarded to community organizations that provide non-sectarian activities for youth during hours when school is not in session.
Kathleen Fenlon, director of the youth bureau, said the mini-grant program provides an opportunity for community groups to organize projects that address the diverse interests of youth in Oswego County.
Grant requests may range from $500 to $2,000.
In the past, the youth bureau has awarded grants to provide artistic workshops for youth during the summer, an educational program for youth in an underserved area of the county, and the opportunity for children to perform a play that deals with developmental disabilities.
“Community partners have been very creative in developing ways to use mini-grants to provide opportunities for children and families which would not otherwise occur,†said Fenlon.
Projects must be completed by the end of 2008 and provide a direct service to children and families in Oswego County.
Applications are being accepted on a continuous basis through mid-September.
The next round of funding has a submission date of June 20 with awards being announced by July 3.
Not-for-profit organizations, including agencies, schools, libraries, municipalities, associations, and churches may apply for funding.
Organizations are encouraged to involve youth in the planning and implementation of the project.
