Literacy Volunteers Featured At May 12 Fulton Lions Meeting

Jane Murphy, executive director of Literacy Volunteers of Oswego County (LVOC) was the featured speaker at the May 12 meeting of the Fulton Lions Club. LVOC is dedicated to helping the 17,000 adults in Oswego County who are unable to read above a 5th grade level with reading, financial and computer literacy. Here Murphy, (center), accepts a donation from Fulton Lions Club President Fred Aldrich. Flanking them are LVOC learners Caroline Aguzar (left) and Shirley Slate, who also spoke at the meeting about how LVOC has helped improve their lives and strengthen their mother-daughter bond. The Fulton club is one of the largest and most active in their district. Lions clubs are committed to sight and hearing preservation. The Fulton Lions Club, also know for their Lions Loot Sweepstakes and Labor Day Duck Derby, also provides financial assistance for those in need of eyeglasses, eye exams and hearing aids to residents in the Greater Fulton area.
