Michael Johnson: A Summer Of Sunsets

Sunset photo by Michael Johnson.

OSWEGO COUNTY – The summer of 2020 is just a memory now, but the time of warm breezes and sultry evenings lingers in our minds long after the first chill of autumn reminds us to prepare for the cold days and nights ahead.

Many of summer’s traditional activities were altered this year, as the coronavirus pandemic upended our usual routines. Many of us here in Oswego County experienced a sense of loss as the summer passed and events we all look forward to were cancelled or postponed, but the time made available by these changes opened up new pathways for making the most of the warm period.

As my evenings were less busy, I made a habit of photographing the sunsets over Lake Ontario. Lying at the eastern end of a Great Lake, Oswego County is blessed with an amazing perspective for observing the setting of the sun, and no two sunsets are alike.

I found my pursuit of the perfect evening sky to be a soothing ritual, and I hope that this collection brings you joy and a warm remembrance of another summer that ended all too soon.
