Michael Johnson: Capturing The Holiday Spirit Around Oswego County

Oswego photo by Michael Johnson.

OSWEGO COUNTY – To capture the festive holiday lights across Oswego County, I set out to tour the cities and small towns and photograph the glowing illumination that graces our public spaces.

This collection of images is shared with the hope that, despite the stresses of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, everyone can find some peace and happiness in this holiday season, and that the tradition of lighting buildings and trees helps all of us to see the beauty of the dark season.

Each of the places that I visited has their own unique way of decorating for the season, some humble and some extravagant, but the message is the same. Bringing light to the darkest time of the year reminds us that there is always hope for a warmer, brighter time to come, and that the shining of this light removes doubt and fear of the future that we cannot see. This message seems even more important as we face yet another wave of sickness and social distancing.
