OSWEGO COUNTYOswego County officials warn the public that the Salmon River is experiencing high flows due to heavy rains that occurred last night, March 30, which, together with more heavy rains forecast tonight, March 31, may cause low-level areas to flood.

People are being urged to stay away from the banks of the Salmon River from the Redfield Reservoir to Lake Ontario, including the village of Pulaski and the hamlet of Altmar, until flow conditions subside.

Oswego County remains under a flood watch until tomorrow, April 1, at 8 p.m., and a severe thunderstorm watch is in effect tonight through 9 p.m.

“We urge everyone in the county to be aware of their surroundings, as low-lying areas on streams and near roadways can flood,” said Cathleen Palmitesso, director of the Oswego County Emergency Management Office.

Brookfield has declared a high flow condition according to their emergency action plan, which indicates that flow conditions could cause flooding downstream of the Salmon River Hydroelectric Project.

Oswego County public safety agencies are monitoring the situation.
