OSWEGO COUNTY – The Oswego County Department of Mobility Management partners with CiTi BOCES to help reduce transportation barriers for high school students participating in internships. Members of this pilot program will receive gas cards to help them travel to and from their intern site.
“We’re excited to join forces with CiTi BOCES to make internships more accessible to high school students,” said Oswego County Director of Mobility Management Heather Snow. “We know that transportation and the cost of gas can pose challenges for students interested in internships, which is why we are providing these gas cards. We want students to feel supported while they work to achieve their goals, and decreasing obstacles helps ensure student success and provides more opportunities for youth.”
Currently, only high school students participating in the CiTi BOCES pilot program are eligible for gas cards. However, Snow plans to grow the program in the future to help more students.
“We want to expand this initiative by partnering with local colleges, high schools and other educational institutions to support students participating in internship programs,” Snow added. “The program is flexible and can be tailored to meet the needs of each school.”
Adult learners enrolled in Oswego County Workforce New York (OCWNY) programs can also benefit from this initiative. Participants of the Oswego Build and “Real Life Rosies” programs are eligible to receive gas cards to help them get to their classes.
