On April 28, 2026, at approximately 3:14 PM, members of the Oswego Police Department Patrol Division responded to 2 Buccaneer Boulevard, Oswego High School, for a report of an intoxicated individual operating a school bus.
Upon arrival, officers located the bus in question and initiated an investigation. The investigation determined that Bradley Wygant, age 39, of Oswego, had been operating the bus while under the influence. At the time of the incident, 30 students of various ages were on board the bus.
Wygant was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Oswego Police Department, where a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) conducted a series of additional evaluations. Following these evaluations, it was determined that Wygant was under the influence of several non-alcoholic substances while operating the bus. A blood sample was collected from Wygant and is being forwarded for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, Wygant was charged with the following:
- Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Leandra’s Law), a Class D Felony
- 30 counts of Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree, Class A Misdemeanors
- 14 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Class A Misdemeanors
The Oswego Police Department worked in conjunction with the Oswego City School District throughout the investigation. Parents of the students involved in this incident were subsequently notified by school district administration. Following his arrest, Wygant was processed and brought to Oswego County Jail for arraignment in CAP court.

Here are some good questions to ask. 1. Why is a mechanic driving a bus during the day instead of fixing them? 2. Why did the director of transportation just come back from a paid leave two or three days ago. 3. Why has the superintendent firing multiple drivers and personnel transportation? 4. Seems like every time people are turning around in the district. There is another member of custodial transportation or food service that the personnel office and the superintendent are in the process of firing. The last question is why is the climate in the district so bad that even the teachers which he is also placed many on paid leave this year and fired several of them, why does everyone in the district not want to go to work because they are building such a negative climate that people are afraid for their jobs every day even when they’re doing the right thing. A special thank you to the current board for bringing the superintendent and this mess to the district. Maybe you folks can help clean it up, but I doubt it. not saying that he’s a bad person, but from what I’ve heard going from a high school principal to a superintendent in charge of a budget that you’ve done nothing but increase every single year that you’ve been there and are now cutting services to students with special needs while telling us in the public that you’re not impacting student learning?
