OSWEGO – Mayor Billy Barlow signed an executive order today (May 30) closing Wright’s Landing Marina to the public in the city of Oswego due to Lake Ontario water levels and associated flooding.

The Wright’s Landing Marina is a city owned and operated marina with several docks available for rent for recreational boats and charters boats along with a public boat launch.

Water levels in the marina have flooded nearby parking lots and roadways through the marina and have made the docks dangerous for pedestrians and boaters.

The city of Oswego has spent the last two months building makeshift structures in an effort to keep docks and launches accessible and prevent closure of the marina; but, with the water level continuing to rise, all options have been exhausted.

Barlow said the city put an enormous amount of resources into keeping the marina open, but with water levels exceeding 2017 levels, the city has no other choice.

“We’ve done absolutely everything we can do to avoid closing Wright’s Landing Marina. We’ve built temporary ramps to raise our marina docks but the water has continued to rise, breaching the marina walls and flooding the entire area,” Mayor Barlow said. “It is simply not a safe situation and I encourage folks to avoid the marina area all together. I fully realize the inconvenience placed on those who regularly use Wright’s Landing Marina so we will offer refunds to our tenants and I will continuously monitor the lake levels and will re-open the marina as soon as I possibly can.”

The city ill offer refunds to boaters who choose to vacate their rented dock slip and will discount the seasonal rate for those who wish to continue reserving their slip.

Wright’s Landing Marina staff will be contacting all tenants of the marina today, offering the refunds and providing additional information on the temporary closure.

All questions and inquiries about the marina should be directed to the Oswego DPW at 315-343-5055.
