OSWEGO – Mayor Billy Barlow hosted a ribbon cutting yesterday evening, December 15, to officially open the new Aqua Spa Float Center and Wellness Boutique in the City of Oswego.

The $2 million, 6,500 square foot wellness center, owned and operated by Tammy Wilkinson and Terry LeRoi, is located in downtown Oswego. The wellness center is a unique, one-of-a-kind spa in the Central New York region, offering float therapy, cryotherapy, infrared saunas, salt therapy, an oxygen bar, massage chairs, a massage therapist, relaxation rooms and an on-site gift store.

One of only a handful of multimodality float centers of this size in the nation, the Aqua Spa offers a new experience for Central New Yorkers eager to experiment and relax using various kinds of different and unique spa treatments currently available.

A float session requires stepping into a warm “bath,” with 10 inches of skin temperature water saturated with 1,000 pounds of Epsom salt; the magnesium filled mini-pool allows your body full buoyancy – free of gravity, allowing tension free relaxation.

Another treatment, called Cryotherapy, accelerates the body’s natural healing process with fast, energizing effects during a 3-minute session, exposing you to subzero temperatures to stimulate skin sensors, activating a central nervous system response that improves recovery, mood and wellness.

The ultra-cold liquid nitrogen has several muscular recovery benefits for athletes. Other treatments available, including the salt therapy and oxygen bar,are designed to help reduce stress and anxiety while using anti-inflammatory and detoxifying qualities to help people relax and reduce chronic pain.

“The new Aqua Spa Float Center and Wellness Boutique is a huge addition to downtown Oswego, the City of Oswego and Central New York, offering a spa experience and personal treatments that are highly sought after, but hard to find in our area,” Barlow said. “I’m so thrilled to see this state-of-the art, one-of-a-kind facility open right here in Oswego, and thank Tammy Wilkinson, Terry LeRoi, Pathfinder Bank and all the partners who came together to make this development happen.  The Aqua Spa Float Center is the latest positive development taking place in downtown Oswego as we experience an unprecedented amount of development and forward progress in our downtown area.  I’m happy to work with Tammy and her team on making the Aqua Spa Float Center a reality, and look forward to seeing the energy and excitement her amazing facility brings to Oswego.”

Owner Tammy Wilkinson, who has struggled with Lupus for years, is a self-care expert and champion of healthy living and self-improvement. Tammy experienced first-hand the benefits of floating, inspiring her to introduce a fresh, new wellness perspective to the Oswego community.

Tammy, along with her life partner Terry, are already successful business owners in Oswego, and combined their entrepreneurial mindset with their self-care expertise to start planning and constructing their new wellness facility.  Construction quickly started in 2019 leading to the official grand opening just in time for the 2020 holiday season.

“It’s truly an honor to share this wellness sanctuary with our community,” Wilkinson said. “Terry and I spent months researching only the best modalities that we felt could enhance our quality of life personally. We felt that these individual modalities were a gift and necessary for us to use in our everyday lives to enhance our wellness. Now, our hope is that our community will use this sanctuary to do the same.”

The Aqua Spa Float Center and Wellness Boutique has approximately 15 employees, the spa located in the back of the former Education Building at 120 E. 1st Street, the spa overlooking the Oswego River.

The wellness center is now offering free tours, accepting appointment reservations andhas gift certificates and spa packages available for purchase.  To learn more about the Aqua Spa Float Center and Wellness Boutique, call 315-207-2080 or visit their website at https://aquaspafloatcenter.com .
