UPDATE: The preliminary cause of the late Monday evening fire at 85 East Utica Street is heat generated from a torch or similar device while contractors were performing work on the front porch roof earlier in the evening, according to the Oswego Fire Department.
While final reports are not in as of yet, contractors working in the area of where the fire started appears to be the cause, the fire chief said.
One of the occupants while outside of the residence noticed smoke and flames above the porch roof. The balloon construction of the older Victorian style home resulted in a quick spread of fire to the attic area.
Crews quickly assessed this and made access to the attic area resulting in a successful extinguishment.

OSWEGO, NY – A structure fire was reported on Oswego’s east side Monday night.
There were no injuries reported in the fire late Monday at 85 E. Utica St., according to Jeff McCrobie, fire chief.
The fire was noticed by one of the occupants of the home and reported at 10:49 p.m.
The fire damaged both the second and third floors of the Victorian style home.
Two occupants exited the structure on their own, McCrobie said.
The cause is under investigation.
