OSWEGO – The City of Oswego is excited to invite the entire community to its annual Independence Day Parade and Block Party, taking place on Sunday, July 6, 2025. This year’s celebration promises a fun-filled day of music, activities, and patriotic pride — capped off with a spectacular fireworks show over the Oswego River.
The Independence Day Parade will begin at 1:00 p.m., stepping off from Oswego High School and marching through the heart of the city along Bridge Street, finishing at historic Fort Ontario. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to line the route and cheer on local groups, performers, and community heroes.
Parade applications are now open! Local organizations, businesses, performance groups, and community members are encouraged to participate in this vibrant community tradition. Applications can be found on the City’s website at www.oswegony.org. The deadline to apply is June 6, 2025.
Immediately following the parade, the celebration continues with the Block Party kicking off at 2:00 p.m. on West 1st Street, between West Bridge Street and West Mohawk Street. The area will be alive with energy as local businesses open their doors, community organizations set up engaging booths, and families can enjoy free activities throughout the evening.
Live music will fill the streets with John McConnell performing from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m., followed by a special Time Capsule Presentation Ceremony at City Hall (West 2nd Street side). The ceremony will highlight the City of Oswego’s commitment to preserving its history, as a time capsule is sealed until 2048.
The evening ramps up with a headlining performance by Off the Record, rocking the stage from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m., leading into the grand finale — a dazzling fireworks display at 9:45 p.m., launched from the pedestrian bridge over the Oswego River.
To help guests get to and from the event with ease, free shuttle service will be provided in partnership with the Oswego County Office of Mobility Management. Attendees are encouraged to park at one of the following designated shuttle locations:
• The Shapiro Lot (use the West 2nd Street side of the lot)
• The Bell Parking Lot at Breitbeck Park
• The Oswego County Parking Lot near Washington Square Park, off of East Oneida Street
The shuttle service will begin at 2:30 p.m. and will continue through the conclusion of the fireworks show, providing safe, convenient transportation for all attendees. Shuttles will drop off and pick up passengers on the West 2nd Street side of Civic Plaza, placing them right in the heart of the festivities.
Mayor Rob Corradino shared his excitement:
“This event is one of the highlights of our summer. It brings together everything that makes Oswego special — community spirit, local pride, and family-friendly fun. We can’t wait to see everyone downtown to celebrate Independence Day together.”
All events are free and open to the public. Come for the parade, stay for the party, and celebrate Independence Day the Oswego way!
