OSWEGO – The City of Oswego Rental Assistance Program’s Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program is a grant-based program with funding awarded through The Department of Housing and Urban Development. The FSS program ensures that work is being done to help families achieve self-sufficiency.
Families receiving assistance through the City of Oswego Rental Assistance Program are eligible to enroll in the FSS Program. Each participating family signs a Contract of Participation and creates an Individual Training Service Plan with the FSS Coordinator. They meet on a regular basis, review their progress and provide updates to their goals, leading to referrals to our Program Coordinating Committee (PCC). PCC can assist with attaining resources in areas of mental health, education, finances, childcare and life skills, to name a few.
In 2017, Alicia Costello voluntarily enrolled in the Family Self-Sufficiency Program. When Alicia became a participant in the City of Oswego Rental Assistance Program, she found herself needing help paying for her rent. Alicia wanted to be able to provide for her family and work towards a career, having a reliable vehicle, increase her credit score and receive guidance on how to adhere to a family budget. The City of Oswego is pleased to congratulate Alicia on reaching her goals and her graduation from the program. All Alicia’s hard work in the program led her to just recently purchasing her own home.
Alicia’s homeownership ribbon cutting and program graduation was celebrated with her, as pictured from left to right, Housing Inspector Chris Schoolcraft, Assistant Housing Program Counselor and Family Self-Sufficiency Coordinator Melissa Hoefer, Real Estate Agent Niko Gorsuch, City of Oswego Mayor Robert A. Corradino, Homeowner Alicia Costello, Common Council President Tim Plunkett and City of Oswego Rental Assistance Program Director Jennifer Gallagher.
The City of Oswego congratulates Alicia and wishes her and her family continued success. Interested in learning more about the Family Self-Sufficiency Program? Call the City of Oswego Rental Assistance Program Office at (315) 343-3452 today for more information and program opportunities.
