OSWEGO – The City of Oswego is proud to recognize and celebrate the Oswego YMCA as it commemorates 170 years of service to the community. Mayor Robert A. Corradino issued an official proclamation honoring the milestone and commending the YMCA for its long-standing commitment to strengthening the lives of children, families, and residents across the City of Oswego at the Common Council meeting on Monday, November 24, 2025.
Founded 170 years ago, the Oswego YMCA has been a cornerstone of the community, adapting and evolving to meet the needs of residents while remaining true to its mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Through its programs and outreach, the YMCA has helped generations grow, thrive, and build meaningful connections.
“For over a century and a half, the Oswego YMCA has been a trusted partner, offering support to working families, encouraging health and wellness, and bringing our community together,” said Mayor Corradino. “We are grateful for their leadership, and we look forward to their continued success in the years ahead.”
The YMCA held a “Business After Hours” event in collaboration with the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce celebrating this milestone in early November, where many community partners gathered in honor of this success.
The YMCA is widely recognized for its high-quality childcare programs, providing safe and nurturing environments where young children can learn, build confidence, and grow. These programs have been invaluable to working families, helping to meet the needs of both parents and children.
Equally impactful has been the YMCA’s commitment to health and wellness. For individuals of all ages and abilities, the YMCA has offered diverse opportunities—including fitness programs, recreation, and access to facilities—supporting residents in maintaining active, balanced, and healthy lifestyles.
Beyond programming, the YMCA has played a central role in fostering community spirit. Through inclusive, family-friendly events, it has created spaces where people come together, celebrate shared values, and strengthen connections. These efforts embody the principles of respect, kindness, and togetherness that define Oswego.
The YMCA’s partnerships have further highlighted its dedication to improving quality of life for all residents. From community collaborations to targeted service efforts, the organization has consistently demonstrated its leadership and compassion.
In his proclamation, Mayor Corradino officially recognized the Oswego YMCA for its exceptional service, leadership, and unwavering dedication to the residents of Oswego. He encouraged all community members to join in celebrating this remarkable milestone.
“The Oswego YMCA has helped shape our community for 170 years,” Corradino stated. “Today we honor their legacy and look forward to what lies ahead as they continue to serve future generations.”
