OSWEGO, NY – On Sept. 4 the Oswego City Police Department arrested three men for second-degree gang assault (Class C felony) for their alleged role in an Aug. 28 assault.
Gang Assault in the Second Degree is when, with intent to cause physical injury to another person and when aided by two or more other persons actually present, the suspect causes serious physical injury to such person or to a third person.
The charge of Gang Assault does not indicate that the arrested parties are in anyway affiliated with what is commonly referred to as a “street gang,†police pointed out.
Police said today (Sept, 11) that the three men are alleged to have acted together on Aug. 28 at approximately 2:14 a.m. near the intersection of Liberty and West Mohawk streets in the city of Oswego.
The victim, a 19-year-old man, suffered serious physical injury during the assault including two orbital fractures, a broken nose, a broken front tooth, and a concussion.
The three suspects that were arrested are:
22-year-old William D. Mathias of New Hartford, NY
21-year-old Christopher J. Soja of Whitesboro, NY
21-year-old Daniel H. Wentworth of New Hartford, NY
All three were arraigned on Sept. 4 in Oswego City Court and were released on their own recognizance.
Mathias was not given a future court date at time of arraignment and was waived to Grand Jury.
Soja is to reappear in Oswego City Court on Oct. 15.
Wentworth is to reappear in Oswego City Court on Oct. 7.
