There’s only one P&C Foods store left in Oswego County, after the chain closed its Fulton and Oswego stores in the last year. The store is in Pulaski, and there’s news that the store and 21 others could be sold to Price Chopper as part of P&C’s bankruptcy.
The Syracuse Post-Standard’s Bob Neidt reports that Price Chopper is offering $54 million for the stores.
“The stores Price Chopper is offering to buy in its bid include the P&C stores in Baldwinsville, Camillus, Towne Center at Fayetteville, the P&C store in Nottingham that was the former Peter’s Supermarket, the Brewerton Road store, Manlius, Canastota, Cazenovia, Chittenango, Skaneateles, Pulaski, Sherrill, Camden and stores in Massena, Potsdam, Canton, Gouverneur, Penn Yan, West Carthage, Lincoln, NH, Bradford, Vt. and Towanda, Pa….
In this [bankruptcy] filing, it told U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington, Del., where its case is being heard, it wants to essentially have a fire-sale of all of its assets, closing on sales by the first week in January.”
The only other bidder so far is a liquidation company that has offered $36 million for the entire P&C chain. Neidt reports that Tops Supermarkets, which withdrew from Oswego County and nearly all of eastern and central New York a few years back, has yet to make a bid, and that a group of P&C executives may try to buy some of the most profitable stores.
The P&C in Pulaski is the village’s only full-service supermarket. There are family owned markets in Sandy Creek and Maple View.
