CICERO, New York – The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate yesterday’s (Sept. 2) crash on Route 31 in the town of Cicero, which claimed the life of a woman and seriously injured two other people.
Yesterday at approximately 12:07 p.m., sheriff’s deputies along with rescue personnel from NAVAC Ambulance, South Bay Fire Department and the Cicero Fire Department responded to Route 31 near Eastwood Road for a reported head-on crash involving two vehicles.
Deputies investigating the crash say a blue Toyota Prius, operated by a 39-year-old Eloisa Vilches-Olea of Cicero, was traveling westbound on Route 31 when her vehicle crossed over into the eastbound lane, striking a white Chrysler Sebring operated by Michael Barrisford (59) and Carmella Barrisford (58) both of Parish.
The impact from the collision caused significant damage to both vehicles and rescue personnel had to extricate all three occupants, who were seriously injured.
The driver of the Toyota and the couple in the Chrysler were all transported to Upstate Hospital where Carmella Barrisford later died from her injuries.
A portion of Route 31 between Eastwood Road and Lakeshore Road was closed for a several hours while members of the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team processed the scene.
Deputies have ruled out alcohol as a contributing factor however the crash still remains under investigation.
