OSWEGO, NY – As the weather starts turning colder, dozens of cats and dogs are seeking a warm, loving ‘forever home.’
The Oswego Animal Shelter needs your help in finding homes for about 60 cats and 16 dogs.
The price to adopt an unfixed cat is $105, while a fixed cat goes for $70.
Fixed dogs can be adopted for $107.50 and unfixed for $155.50.
Once the owner proves they’ve gotten their animal fixed, their $35 deposit will be returned.
Summer is the busiest season for the Animal Shelter because animals are breeding much more than in the winter months.
This is why it is so important that pet owners spay and neuter their pets.
There is an onslaught of kittens brought into the shelter once the weather is warm.
Oswego County has a feral cat problem due to pet owners not spaying and neutering their pets.
Kittens that are born to stray mothers and never experience human contact become feral. Feral cats can be dangerous because they tend to be extremely aggressive.

The Oswego County Humane Society, located at 265 W. First St. (basement of the Oswego YMCA Armory), has about 80 cats and 10 dogs in foster homes right now.
Rather than keeping animals in cages, foster owners care for the cats or dogs until they find a ‘forever home.’
For a small adoption fee, one can become a foster parent.
As a foster parent, the vet bills are provided as well as giving your animal a ride to adoption days.
