Driver Facing Several Charges Following Serious Injury MVA

OSWEGO, NY – On Monday, at about 1:45 p.m., Oswego police arrested 19-year-old William S. Matott of 95 W. Albany St., Oswego, regarding his involvement in a March 6 motor vehicle accident on Route 481 near Churchill Road.

It was determined that Matott was operating a motor vehicle headed south on Route 481 near Churchill Road when he struck a second vehicle headed north on Route 481 resulting in serious physical injuries to Matott and the 21-year-old driver of the second vehicle.

Oswego police were assisted by the New York State Police in the accident reconstruction.

As a result of the investigation, it was determined that, at the time of the accident, Mattott had been allegedly operating the motor vehicle while in an intoxicated condition with a blood alcohol content of more than .08%, while speeding at 68 mph in a 55 mph zone and had been operating the vehicle with a temporary spare tire on the vehicle.

Matott was also allegedly operating the motor vehicle while having a suspended New York State driver’s license.

Matott was arrested upon his release from the hospital.

He was later arraigned in Oswego City Court on a charge of second-degree assault (Class D felony) as well as misdemeanor charges of DWI, driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or more and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Additionally, Matott was issued traffic tickets for speeding, failure to keep right, and no seatbelt.
