Fire Destroys Garage In The City of Oswego

OSWEGO – On Tuesday, September 3, 2024, just before 4:00 am, the Oswego Fire Department was alerted by the Oswego County 911 Center of a reported structure fire at 315 Cherry Street in the City of Oswego. Oswego Firefighters arrived minutes later to find a large garage fully involved in fire. Oswego Fire Department command then transmitted a second alarm to bring additional units to the scene. 

Firefighters worked quickly to douse the flames and control the fire from spreading to nearby exposures. Officers from the City of Oswego Police Department worked to evacuate homes in the area and control the perimeter of the scene. Firefighters continued to flow large amounts of water from several handlines on the fire building and exposures for approximately 30 minutes. The fire was declared under control at 4:31 am. City of Oswego DPW crews were called to the scene to assist with debris removal, allowing Firefighters to gain access to hot spots and fully extinguish the fire. The garage and contents inside were a total loss, including 2 vehicles. The heat from the fire caused minor damage to the nearby home. 

One Oswego Firefighter sustained minor injuries and was transported to the Oswego Hospital by Menter Ambulance. The Firefighter was treated for a hand injury and released.

The City of Oswego Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the City of Oswego Police Department, City of Oswego Department of Public Works, Fulton Fire Department, Novelis Fire Department, Menter Ambulance, and National Grid. 

The Origin and Cause of the fire is under investigation.
