OSWEGO – The Oswego County Health Department is offering walk-in flu clinics for adults at the Nick Sterio Public Health Clinic, 70 Bunner St., Oswego weekdays from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m., beginning Oct. 3. No appointment is necessary.
The flu shot is recommended for everyone older than 6 months. Getting a flu shot is the best strategy for preventing the flu and its complications; it can reduce one’s chance of getting the flu by 70 to 90 percent.
“The flu is serious. It can be particularly dangerous for certain people at high risk, including people 65 and older; people with chronic illnesses like asthma, diabetes, cancer, kidney or heart disease; and pregnant women and young children,” said Jiancheng Huang, Oswego County Director of Public Health. “An otherwise healthy person may be sick in bed for a week with the flu, but passing the flu on to someone in one of these groups could have far more serious consequences. This flu season, protect yourself and the people around you by getting vaccinated.”
The cost of the flu shot is $37 and is covered by Medicaid and Medicare. People planning on attending a clinic should bring their Medicaid or Medicare cards with them as well as any managed Medicaid and Medicare cards, if applicable. No one will be denied service because of inability to pay.
Children can receive their flu shots at the health department’s regular immunization clinics every Tuesday from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at 70 Bunner St., Oswego, and the first and third Tuesdays of every month from 9 to 11 a.m. at the H. Douglas Barclay Courthouse, Pulaski.
