OSWEGO – Fort Ontario State Historic Site will host a guided tour of its historic post cemetery at 7 p.m. Aug. 10.
The tour will start at the overlook parking lot and will be led by fort historian Rachel Ruller.
The event is free and open to the public, and will last approximately an hour and 15 minutes.
The Fort Ontario Post Cemetery contains the remains of 77 men, women, and children who were connected with Fort Ontario throughout its history.
The earliest grave dates to1759, and the most recent interment was in 1943.
Ruller will present information about those who are buried in the cemetery, the history of the post, and some of the popular legends surrounding the site.
Fort Ontario State Historic Site is located at 1 E. Fourth St., Oswego.
The post cemetery is situated near the far parking lot overlooking the lake.
