Firefighters aggressively deployed multiple handlines inside to extinguish the fire in the rear of the home, while other members conducted a primary search for trapped occupants or pets. Firefighters were able to save three pets from the fire. Firefighters spent the next hour pulling ceilings, walls, and soffit to expose and extinguish hidden pockets of fire. Fire damage was contained to the room and area of origin, the rest of the home sustained moderate smoke and water damage. The fire was declared under control and units were cleared from the scene in just under two hours. The City of Oswego Fire Investigation Team is still on scene at this time.

Several agencies assisted the Oswego Fire Department on the scene including the Oswego Police Department, Fulton Fire Department, Novelis Emergency Services, the Oswego County Fire Coordinator’s Office, and National Grid. Firefighters from Mexico responded to the scene with the Oswego County Mobile Cascade Unit to refill SCBA cylinders. Firefighters from Minetto, Oswego Town, and Scriba responded to the City of Oswego mutual aid to cover any subsequent calls. There were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation and does not appear to be suspicious.

City of Oswego Fire Chief Paul Conzone commended those working on the scene for their efforts, saying “Our Firefighters did a tremendous job keeping fire damage contained to the room and area of origin – ultimately saving the home. The quick response and aggressive interior attack in blinding smoke and high heat conditions made for good results, saving the property from further damage. Special Thanks to our great mutual aid partners that assisted on the scene and standing by to cover other calls in the city during the fire.”
