OSWEGO, NY – Hundred of youngsters, their friends and families, marched from Breitbeck Park to the Novelis Family Park (West Park) on Friday in idyllic weather.
The annual Children’s Parade is considered by many to be the official start of Harborfest.
The parade drew an unofficial throng estimated at more than 1,000 participants, from infants to adults.
The Mexico High School’s Matadors provided marching music for the event. Following the parade, the also performed in West Park.
The temperature was in the mid 70s with only slight humidity during the march.
To ensure everyone stayed safe, the Oswego Health Sun Patrol passed out sun screen to the marchers as well as those along the parade route.
As in years past, the parade route was lined with people; many of them cheering and taking pictures of the marchers as they went past.
Some youngsters broke ranks and dashed over to hug friends along the route on Lake Street.
Harborfest 2017 doesn’t slow down at all on Saturday (July 29).
There will music and activities at all the venues.
Local rockers F5 kicks off things at Lakeview Stage at 2 p.m. followed by Violet Mary at 4 p.m. and Stroke at 6 p.m. They will be followed by Brass Inc. at 8 p.m. and Oswego’s own Frostbit Blue at 10 p.m. following the fireworks spectaculor.
The 30th anniversary fireworks display is set to start at 9:30 p.m.
The lineup for the Jazz/Blues Stage includes: Tia Brazda at 1:15 p.m., Melissa Gardiner at 3:30 p.m., Freefall at 5:45 p.m. and Tas Cru at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. following the fireworks.
The Novelis Family Tent and Family Bandstand will also be jam-packed full of music and activities.
