OSWEGO, NY – The Port City plowed through its second heavy snowstorm of the year Wednesday.
Nearly 8 inches of snow fell from late Tuesday night through Wednesday evening, according to Bill Gregway, local observer for the National Weather Service.
“The snow started falling between 10 and 10:03 Tuesday night and didn’t stop until around 7 p.m. Wednesday,” he said. “We received an additional 7.8 inches.”
That brings January’s snowfall up to 33.7 inches and the winter to 70.9 inches.
There is approximately 16 inches of snow on the ground.
Wednesday’s winds were northwesterly at about 12 – 18 mph most of the day, Gregway said.
And then, about 3 p.m., the winds shifted to coming more directly across the lake.
That is when the snowflakes got larger, Gregway noted.
For the most part, it was light and fluffy lake effect snow. It melted down to 0.33-inch of water content, Gregway added.
Meanwhile, Fulton received 11.4 inches, according to weather watcher John Florek.
That pushes the monthly snowfall total to 31.3 inches and cracks the 100-inch plateau (103 inches) for the winter.
