Man Drowns In Richland

A Southern Tier man apparently drowned Sunday night in the town of Richland.

The Oswego County Sheriff’s Department says someone discovered John W. Bentley, 56, of 104 Oakwood Avenue, Elmira Heights floating in the water at Pine Grove Campgrounds. Bentley had reportedly gone swimming by himself about 20 minutes before he was found.

A member of the New York State Parks Police and a neighbor tried to revive Bentley. He was pronounced dead at Oswego Hospital.
