PHOENIX, NY – Police continue to search for two men who reportedly entered a house at 106 Cherry St. and reportedly fired two shots from a handgun.
There were no injuries reported; a resident of the second-story apartment escaped unharmed and no other injuries were reported, either, authorities said.
State police, county sheriff’s deputies and Phoneix police responded to the scene around 12:20 p.m. today (Sept. 23).
No one was discovered in the residence when police entered.
The Phoenix Central School District was in lockout mode during the incident. The lockout was lifted earlier this afternoon, and the students were dismissed.
“I talked to my mother and have received word from a parent of students in Phoenix schools that the kids were released because they were pretty sure the suspects had left the area. They were notified by both house and cell phone in many cases, with a voice recording first alerting them to the fact that the schools were on lockout and then when they called it off,” said Jocelyn Cook, an Oswego County Today contributing writer and Phoenix resident.
She said a friend grew up across the street and her family along with others in neighboring houses were escorted by members of the Oswego County SWAT team out of the area.
According to a press release from the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office:
The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the report of a home invasion in the village of Phoenix that occurred today at about 12:30 p.m.
Two black males are alleged to have forced entry into a residence on Cherry Street, discharging a firearm, threatening the resident, and demanding items.
The resident reports he fled his home, and at that time it was unknown if the males were still inside.
The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police Emergency Service Units responded.
The Emergency Service Units were able to gain entry to the home and determine that it was unoccupied.
There were no reports of injuries.
Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene were members of the New York State Police, Fulton City Police, Village of Phoenix Police, and the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office.
