OSWEGO – Mayor Robert Corradino gave his mayoral report, which included the parking ban implemented to keep cars off residential roads, and commended Oswego resident John Riley. Resolutions 13 – 21 were all approved. Both Councilors Walker and Allen were absent from the meeting. The absences were excused.

John J. Gosek of the 5th ward spoke during the meeting. He was advocating for the renewal of Safe Haven’s lease. He spoke about Ruth Guber. He says that Guber was a driving force behind the museum. Gosek says that Guber came to Oswego with Eleanor Roosevelt and was tasked by Roosevelt to go to Europe and Italy to bring Jewish refugees to Oswego. Gosek hopes that Guber will be remembered along with the museum.

Corradino gave his mayoral report. During this, he talked about the parking ban that started Monday, January 6th. The ban referenced restricts parking on residential streets from midnight to 6:00 a.m. This is to allow DPW to clear streets after snowfall. Corradino said that on the first two nights of the ban, the police department passed out courtesy citations to remind residents not to park on the street. Corradino hopes to remove the ban during winter if the weather dictates.

Next, Corradino wanted to celebrate Oswego resident John Riley. Riley is involved in the production of the musical ‘A Girl I Know’, which will be shown at the Landmark Theater in Syracuse. “John is the son of Elizabeth and Mike Riley and was raised in the city of Oswego,” said Corradino, “John received his bachelor’s degree in piano performance from Ithaca College, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburg School of Law. Following law school, John pursued his PhD in Korean legal history at Seoul National University and taught commercial international law for 13 years.”

Corradino asks Oswego residents to support Riley by attending “A Girl I Know” on Wednesday, February 12th, at Landmark Theater. The musical will be presented in concert, with Broadway performers and a full orchestra. “This is a local person that has made good in the theater and the legal profession. I wanted to make sure I highlighted a local doing quite well for themselves.
