OSWEGO – City of Oswego Mayor Rob Corradino today announced that the City of Oswego has begun a transformational citywide project to upgrade street lighting. The City of Oswego has purchased its streetlights from National Grid and is replacing existing lighting with high efficiency LED’s. This work is slated to start later this fall. This project is key to resolving many ongoing neighborhood concerns with existing streetlighting outages.

“Taking control and improving our streetlights has been a top priority throughout my time in office. The City of Oswego is making a smart long-term investment that will help reduce our energy use, improve safety and cut costs,” said Corradino. “As someone who has spent their career in the private sector, I am committed to finding innovative ways to improve the quality of life for residents of the City of Oswego.”

The project is projected to save the City of Oswego $449,000 in annual operation and maintenance costs and save 1.4 million KWH, reducing carbon emissions by 1,001 metric tons per year. This is the equivalent to taking 238 cars off the road annually. Installation will continue throughout the fall and winter and the lights currently out of service have been prioritized to be replaced first. We ask the public to be patient while the conversion is underway and should refrain from calling National Grid or city offices to report a streetlight outage.

“The streetlight update project is a significant step forward in the City of Oswego’s efforts to invest in critical infrastructure, reduce costs and improve efficiency. It also supports our commitment to sustainability.  This is a commonsense improvement that will save taxpayer money and improve infrastructure at the same time. This is a win-win for our community, and I look forward to continuing to improve infrastructure and drive efficiency,” said Corradino.
