Mexico Man Charged In Shotgun Incident

OSWEGO, NY – City police responded to 133 E. Oneida St. at 10:46 p.m. Monday for a shots fired complaint.

Investigation determined that a 12-gauge shotgun had been fired into the side of an unoccupied, parked vehicle.

The shooter was identified by witnesses on the scene as Bryon M. Patchen, 25, of 4328 Church St., Mexico.

Responding officers immediately secured the crime scene, and investigation determined that no one had been injured.

Patchen had been distraught over a dispute with his ex-girlfriend and had fled the scene, police said.

With the assistance of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Department, Patchen was located at his residence within 30 minutes of the incident.

He was subsequently turned over to the Oswego Police Department.

The shotgun was recovered and secured.

Patchen was charged with the following crimes:

Second-degree criminal mischief – Class D Felony

Second-degree reckless endangerment – Class A Misdemeanor

Illegal discharge of a firearm – Unclassified Misdemeanor

On Tuesday, Patchen was arraigned in Oswego City Court, and remanded to the Oswego County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bail bond.

Oswego City Police Chief Michael J. Dehm stated, “Thankfully, no one was hurt in this incident. The quick response and competent investigation of my officers, combined with those of the Oswego County Sheriff’s deputies who assisted us, led to the rapid apprehension of the suspect and the best possible outcome for all involved.”
