SYRACUSE, NY – The recent news stories concerning Planned Parenthood are shocking and disconcerting.

They draw attention, front and center, to the ugly and damaging reality of abortion.

The stories serve to remind us that abortion is a direct attack on vulnerable human life.

They also demonstrate the sad reality that fetal organs and tissues are routinely harvested, bought and sold in our country.

These actions treat human life as a disposable commodity.

Human beings are meant to be a cherished gift, not thrown away or used for profit.

The Church encourages all people of good will to treat one another with dignity and respect, and to stand together, protect the vulnerable, and to pray unceasingly.

The Church also recognizes that this news coverage may stir traumatic feelings for those who’ve been involved with abortion.

  1. Maybe, just maybe, if the church promoted birth control there would be less need for abortion.

  2. No, Bishop. The tissues are used to advance the science behind countless maladies affecting Humankind. Due to this research, people who are suffering will be able to be treated and lead more normal lives. Also, Planned Parenthood provides basic care to families and women who don’t have the resources to access quality attention for their needs, often for free.
