New Principal Named At OHS

OSWEGO, NY – Oswego High School has a new leader.

At Tuesday night’s school board meeting, Patricia Oughterson, of Oswego, was appointed principal effective today (Sept. 16).

She is the second female principal in the history of OHS.

Previously, Ruth Raby served from 1964 to 1965.

Oughterson’s experience includes Santa Fe High School assistant principal and Espanola, NM, High School principal.

She has also held several other positions in regards to research data, accountability, testing and human resources.

Oughterson also has numerous honors and professional activities.

She earned an MA in Education at the University of New Mexico, and a BA in Secondary English from SUNY Oswego.

In 1979, she student taught at OHS.

Oughterson’s starting salary will be $101,000.

  1. I understand the vote was 6-0 and I must admit I am a little disappointed in Fran Hoefer for voting yes for a $101,000 salary. She is also guaranteed a 4% raise next year under the union contract.

    However, I trust Mr. Dunsmoor and Mr. Hoefer’s judgment in a candidate and hopefully Ms. Oughterson will be an ally in the effort to reform the school day and increase productivity from OCTA. I do wish her the best of luck in her new position and I hope that she will earn her 6-figure salary unlike Mr. Crist, Mr. Colucci, Ms. Chamberlain and Mr. Myles, the four of whom have collectively accomplished absolutely nothing.

  2. OK, if $101K is disappointng, what is a non-disappointing starting salary? Upon what do you base your number? Should no one in the OCSD make $101K? Why?
