Nine Mile Point Unit 1 Offline for Planned Maintenance

OSWEGO, NY – Exelon Generation’s Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station Unit 1 was removed from service at approximately 7 a.m. today (March 17) for planned maintenance that will help ensure reliable summer operations.

During the outage, technicians will replace a pump seal and perform valve maintenance.

This work cannot be completed while the unit is online and will not impact Unit 2 operations.

Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station is located seven miles northeast of Oswego and 50 miles north of Syracuse.

The station can produce more than 1,937 megawatts of carbon-free electricity – enough to power nearly two million homes.

  1. More than 2 million home can be powered but oswego sits in the danger zone of nuclear power and high utility rates. Thanks for the hatborfest fireworks though.

  2. We also like to be as vague as possible in our press releases and give the public as little information as possible about something that could contaminate the entire Northeast and especially Lake Ontario.

  3. A plant is never shut down during a run for “planned maintenance”. Why not be honest and say that the leaking pump seal and valves were bad enough to have to shut down the plant and be repaired immediately?
