OSWEGO – The Oswego County Academic Youth League (OCAY) recently hosted its third event of the academic year, focusing on individuals whose contributions have shaped history.
Held at Cayuga Community College in Fulton, the event titled “Movers and Shakers” saw teams engage in a series of challenges exploring technology, architecture and dance.
Representing nine Oswego County School Districts, each team was made up of ten students selected by their advisors for excellence in engineering, art, history, dance, writing, public speaking, creativity, teamwork and time management.
Participants showcased their skills through quizzes, paper airplane designs, call-to-action
speeches, poster creations inspired by figures from the international women’s hall of
fame, and social dance routines.
The judging panel included Colleen Mannion, a retired English teacher; Sally Dayger, a
retired math teacher and administrator with a background in costume design; and Jay
Stone, a former dance instructor and performer.
The competition was tough, but Team Oswego emerged victorious. Their team
consisted of Jack DelConte, Audrey Donovan, Leah Dykas, Olivia Kurilovitch, Adrianne Lehmann, Ian MacKenzie, Maggie O’Leary, Michael Paestella, David Pearson and Beatrice Rastley.
Oswego High School Team advisor, Kayley Morse, expressed pride in her team’s performance stating, “They continue to impress me with their teamwork, creativity, and how hard they challenge and push themselves.”
Trailing close behind in second place was the team from Mexico and in third place was the team from Central Square.

OCAY League was founded on the premise of academic excellence through the competition of schools in Oswego County. Teams are made up of eight to ten members and compete in several events throughout the school year.
