OSWEGO – A brief Board of Education meeting was held last night, Tuesday, July 19. Superintendent Dr. Mathis Calvin III spoke to the board regarding two urgent problems found during construction work at the Charles E. Riley Elementary School.

Calvin said contractors noticed a hole full of water while repairing a gas line outside the school. The issue led to them finding a badly leaking water line in need of immediate repair. The cost of repairs is coming in at $81,495.78.

The second issue revolves around a sump pump failure, including sewer lines that extend from a crawl space to the end of the building. The lines have deteriorated to the point that they are leaking raw sewage into the crawl area. Also found was concrete pillar pitting due to water damage from the sump pump failure. Repair costs are coming in at $33,107.90.

King + King Architects Project Manager Craig Dailey who attended the meeting, addressed the building issues in further detail, saying that even though there was pillar pitting, there were no structural issues at this time.
