OSWEGO, NY – Even though there’s still snow on the ground, city officials are planning for summer and beyond.
At this week’s meeting of the Physical Services Committee, aldermen approved the use of city property for the chamber of commerce.
The chamber is seeking approval of a parade permit, closure of Bridge Street from East Seventh Street to Liberty Street and Liberty Street to Oswego High School, use of the city bandstand at no cost, and waiving of the Hawking and Peddling Ordinance for this year’s Independence Day Celebration to be held on July 4.
The chamber also wants to use East Park for the 17th annual Great Pumpkin Festival on Oct. 2 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Oct. 3 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
They also requested to have East Oneida Street blocked off from East Third Street to East Fourth Street from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 2, and use of the walkway from East Cayuga Street to East Schuyler Street for displays.
Also, they’d like use of the city bandstand in East Park, with fee waived, and trash cans and liners for the park area.
Chamber officials also asked that the Open Container Ordinance be waived for wine tasting and bottle sale (for home consumption) in East Park.
The requests were the same as last year’s, according to Beth Hilton, executive director of the chamber.
The chamber also asked permission to hold its annual Taste of Oswego event on Aug. 29 from noon to 6 p.m. behind the Best Western Hotel on East First Street. They also requested use of the bandstand at no cost.
Hilton said there is one change this year. She said the event will be behind the Econo Lodge, since construction is going to begin on the conference center at Best Western.
The committee forwarded all the requests to the full council for consideration.
