Oswego Farmers’ Market Kicks Off 4 P.M. Thursday

OSWEGO, NY – The Port City’s community block party will open for the season Thursday afternoon.

Sponsored by the city and Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce, the Oswego Farmers’ Market, will get under way for the 2010 season at 4 p.m.

Located on West First Street, between Bridge and Oneida streets, the market will continue every Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. through Sept. 30.

Around 3 p.m. West First Street will be closed to traffic to allow vendors to begin setting up.

According to Beth Hilton, executive director of the chamber, the alternate schedule would allow “an opportunity for some of our more senior residents to attend the market before the crowds set in.”

In past years, there have been complaints from those using walkers or wheelchairs that it is difficult to get around the market, she noted.

Market officials also believe this may alleviate the problems there have been in the past with the behavior of some teens loitering at the market.

A variety of theme nights, including Polish, Italian and Irish are planned this summer.
