OSWEGO, NY – Oswego Health’s Behavioral Services Department will provide holiday tips for those with autism spectrum disorders and other mental health issues during the Holiday Expo on Nov. 18 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Oswego YMCA Armory.

Dr. Barbara Mettleman, a child psychologist, along with members of the Oswego County Autism Task Force, will be available to talk to families about autism, Asperger Syndrone and pervasive development disorders.

They will also provide information on local resources available to families.

“It’s recognized that a higher number of children are being diagnosed with autism spectrum diseases,” Dr. Mettleman said. “And, we’ve found that early intervention is important for a better prognosis. In addition nationwide 20-percent of school-age children show characteristics of mental health issues. At the Expo will hope we can help local families learn more about these diseases and provide educational information.”
