Oswego Police Arrest Man With Gun After Asking Public To Be On The Lookout

OSWEGO – Yesterday, December 13, in the afternoon hours, the Oswego Police Department responded to the area of West Eighth Street near the intersection of West Bridge Street for multiple complaints of a person with a gun.

Upon arrival, officers conducted an investigation speaking to a victim who reported to police that a male had approached him for no apparent reason and threatened him verbally while showing him what appeared to be a handgun.

OPD reached out to the public via social media at 4:46 p.m. yesterday asking them to keep an eye out for “a suspicious white male who was last seen in the area of West Eighth Street and West Cayuga Street. The male is about 5’8” tall, has a beard, skinny build.”

By 9 p.m. yesterday OPD announced they had located and identified the man.

“We would like to thank the members of the community for their assistance today regarding the suspicious male. Through our investigation, he has been identified. Thank you again for your assistance,” OPD’s Facebook post said.

As a result of the investigation, Floyd C. Haywood, age 19 of Oswego, was arrested and charged with Menacing in the second degree and Criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree.

Haywood is currently in police custody awaiting arraignment.

The Oswego Police Department would like to thank the Oswego Fire Department, the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office and the US Border Patrol for their assistance in the investigation.
