OSWEGO – On November 9, 2024, at about 12:39 PM, the Oswego police department was dispatched to a residence in the city of Oswego for an EMS call with law call.
Upon arrival, officers spoke to Jeffrey Hinderliter who stated he was operating a skid steer in the back of his property along the wood line. While doing such, unknown to him, his 6-year-old child, Grace Hinderliter, had come too close to the machine out of his view and was subsequently struck. As a result of the accident, personnel with Menter Ambulance pronounced Grace deceased on scene.
The Oswego police department were assisted by the New York State Police collision reconstruction unit, Oswego fire department and Menter Ambulance.
“This is a tragic event that has deeply affected the Oswego community. There have been multiple levels of coordination with the family, school district and first responders for assistance and counseling.” Said Chief Phil Cady.
No criminal charges are being filed in this incident.
