OSWEGO, NY – Mayor Randy Bateman tonight (July 12) announced that the Port City would be receiving $4 million in grant funds.
Municipalities across New York State will receive $67 million in grants from the New York Clean Water State Revolving Fund for clean water infrastructure projects.
The New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation administers the CWSRF and provides loans to communities throughout the state for the construction, replacement, and improvement of water infrastructure.
Oswego will receive the maximum allowed, the mayor said at the Common Council meeting.
The $4 million will be used toward the West Side Sewer project that is under way as part of the Consent Decree with the Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Environmental Conservation, he explained.
“This funding represents an important investment in New York’s clean water infrastructure,” Gov. David Paterson said in a prepared statement announcing the funding. “For many New York communities, these projects would not be possible without the substantial financial assistance provided to them as principal forgiveness. I would like to thank President Obama and the New York Congressional Delegation, for the increased Federal funding allocation for clean water infrastructure projects.”
“These funds will go to work immediately, improving infrastructure, creating jobs, growing the economy and helping to prevent taxes and water rates from rising,†added Senator Charles Schumer.
“I am pleased to see this investment in the clean water infrastructure of many communities across Northern and Central New York,†said Congressman Bill Owens. “Much of the region’s infrastructure is long overdue for repair and this investment in our local communities will help create jobs in the short-term while also laying the groundwork for lasting economic development.”
