Police – Syracuse Man Stabbed Port City Resident

OSWEGO, NY – On Wednesday, at about 3:12 p.m. officers of the Oswego City Police Department were dispatched to 89 W. Utica St. for a reported stabbing that had just occurred.

First responding officers found a 34-year-old man suffering from numerous lacerations to the head area that are believed to have been caused by an unknown type edged weapon.

The victim was initially treated at Oswego Hospital and later transferred to University Hospital in Syracuse with non–life threatening injuries, police said.

The investigation revealed that the suspect, Joshua P. Butler (07/22/82), of 205 Leonard St., Syracuse, allegedly had illegally entered apartment #4 at 89 W. Utica St. and repeatedly struck the victim in the head area with the edged weapon.

Butler had fled the scene in a gray 2005 Mercury Mountaineer prior to police arrival.

Assistance from area law enforcement agencies was requested and at approximately 6 p.m., Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputies located Butler at his residence.

Butler was detained until investigators from the Oswego Police Department could respond to that location.

Butler was arrested and search warrants were executed at his residence as well as on his vehicle.

As a result of the investigation Butler was charged with the following:

Two counts of: first-degree burglary – Class B Felony

One count each of: second-degree assault – Class D Felony; third-degree criminal possession of a weapon (previous criminal conviction) – Class D Felony
