Porky and Buddy Pet Health – New Year’s Resolutions From Pets’ Perspective

Porky and Buddy

Dear readers,
It’s that time of year again when people start thinking, however reluctantly, about the new year and whether they should be making New Year’s Resolutions.

As a general rule, we have no opinion about whether you should join a gym or eat less or read more, because, to be honest, none of that affects us.

But here is what you could do that we heartily endorse . . .

Go on more walks, with us of course, and even when the weather is horrible and it’s the last thing you want to do.

Because, in spite of the weather, it’s still the first thing we want to do.

Give us more hugs and kisses.

Don’t worry about germs.

Germs that you encounter from kissing your pets are not harmful. We read it on the internet, so we know it’s true.

Play with us.

And by that we don’t mean throw a toy on the floor and call it a day. Play tug with us. When we bring you a ball throw it for us, over and over and over. Dangle little fluorescent mice in front of us and after we snatch them away go find a jingly ball and roll that.

The whole point of playing is attention from you.

When we snatch cookies or cheese cubes off the table and you yell at us, remember that’s attention from you in our eyes.

So, you might as well give up and play with us some more.

Go adopt a new playmate for us from a shelter.

You still have to play with us but now you have two (or more) playmates.

Donate to the Humane Society.

Sure it doesn’t affect us directly; but it makes us proud of you and it helps our long-lost cousins.

Volunteer at the Humane Society – as long as it doesn’t interfere with our play time.

Sign up for advocacy action alerts from the national animal organizations, the ASPCA and HSUS are two possibilities.

And when you learn about legislative or administrative initiatives that need to be supported or opposed, do it.

That helps all of us and you can do that during our nap time.

Take us to the vet once a year for an annual checkup and make an effort to keep up with our vaccinations.

Yes, we hate going there too, but we know it’s important and we can’t drive.

Be proud to be a “crazy animal person.”

It’s an illustrious group of people and a lot of fun for both the people and their pets!
