OSWEGO – Peter O. Nwosu was honored at Monday’s common council meeting. Nwosu’s inauguration as SUNY Oswego’s 11th president will this Friday at 1 P.M. It will at the Deborah F. Stanley Arena and Convocation Hall.
“It is indeed a great honor and a delight for me to receive this honor on behalf of our great institution,” said Nwosu. Nwosu was invited to Downtown Oswego by Mayor Billy Barlow on his 2nd day as president, and the welcome he received has stuck with him to this day. After meeting Corradino, he said he felt that “regardless of who the mayor is, this community is one.”
Mayor Robert Corradino read a proclamation regarding Nwosu. “This is certainly an honor for me,” said Corradino, “not only as the mayor of Oswego but also as a graduate of Oswego State, to be here with the 11th president of SUNY Oswego.” Corradino believes the city and the college are connected and hopes to continue fostering that relationship by honoring its new president.
The proclamation praises Nwosu, as well as SUNY Oswego, for its contributions to the Oswego community. Nwosu’s project, Vision 40/40, aims to enhance regional economic development, increase upward mobility, and double the credentials awarded by the institution. Nwosu attended Harvard University and has authored numerous scholarly articles, including three books.
Corradino and Nwosu are excited about Nwosu’s future impact on the Oswego community. Nwosu put significant emphasis on SUNY Oswego and Oswego being one. “One campus, one city. This city and our university are in good hands,” said Nwosu.
