OSWEGO, NY – Earlier this week, they cut a ribbon to open the bookmobile that will be visiting youngsters this summer.
Joan Dain, who spearheaded the effort, also christened the vehicle with a bottle of special champagne. The environmentally safe bottle is designed to break a certain way and comes inside a plastic bag to prevent any chance of glass flying.
Her first attempts were less than successful, as you can perhaps tell by the expression on her face in the photo by our Steve Yablonski.
Even though he had his camera set at high-speed he didn’t get the shot he wanted as she smashed the bottle on the fender a third time. He got her swinging the bottle and then Joan holding the broken bottle and bag dripping champagne.
Luckily, Ed Taverni was shooting the same scene, with a split second difference. As you can see, his photo captured the “peak action.”
OSWEGO, NY – The setting sun can be seen among the trees at the Post Cemetery at Fort Ontario State Historic Site.
Friends of Fort Ontario will host a guided tour of the cemetery at 7:30 p.m. on June 28.

FAIR HAVEN, NY – Here is a photo Minetto resident Dick Drosse took while paddling on Fair Haven Bay with the paddling group, Yakker Kayakers.
It seems a mother and father swan were enjoying the sunny afternoon on the water with their cygnets.
The wind was strong and glare from the sun made viewing hard, he said.
HANNIBAL, NY – Contributing photographer Harrison Wilde took this photo the other day.
For some reason, these turkey buzzards have been circling our house, he said.
However, after he captured this photo, they disappeared!
Perhaps they just wanted their 15 minutes of fame.

Thanks for pictures and I think the bookmobile is a great idea.
