OSWEGO – The Oswego Time Capsule Committee and the City of Oswego are excited to update the community on the highly anticipated Time Capsule Project. Throughout the past few weeks, the City of Oswego’s Department of Public Works has been working tirelessly on creating a structure tailored to housing the upcoming Time Capsule – set to be dedicated on July 6th at 6:30 p.m.
The Capsule’s Monument, located along West Second Street on City Hall property, will house the capsule for 23 years and is set to be opened in July 2048; the city’s bicentennial celebration of its incorporation.
“The Time Capsule project has been a remarkable journey for our community, bringing together residents to preserve the stories, milestones, and shared experiences that define Oswego. This initiative has fostered civic pride and historical reflection, ensuring that future generations can connect with the spirit of our time,” Mayor Robert Corradino said. “As we prepare for the July 6, 2025, insertion into the monument, we celebrate not only the culmination of this project but the collective dedication that made it possible. Oswego’s legacy is stronger because of the voices and contributions of its people.”
The year-round usable, weatherproofed structure is intended to be reused by future Time Capsule Committee’s to preserve the city’s treasured history through either rain, snow or shine. In the interim of the dedication and its opening, the housing unit will allow residents and passersby to relax and gander at the Historic Oswego City Hall as they traverse the historic downtown streets of the City of Oswego.
