Underage Drinking Sting Results In 2 Arrests

OSWEGO, NY – Recently, the Oswego City Police Department conducted investigative operations geared toward curbing the sale of alcoholic beverages to persons under the age of 21.

The details used undercover officers and a person(s) actually under the age of 21 to attempt the purchase of alcoholic beverages at various establishments in the city of Oswego.

During the operations, “under 21 purchases” were attempted at various establishments throughout the city including both taverns and grocery/convenience stores.

Of those establishments, violations (alcoholic beverages sold to a person less than 21) were observed at two places of business.

As a result of the operations, the following people were arrested and each charged with first-degree unlawfully dealing with a child (sale of an alcoholic beverage to a person less than 21 years of age), an A misdemeanor:

Genevieve T. Willette, 30, was arrested at Club Crystal, 6 Market St. and a 17-year-old was arrested at Garafolo’s Importing, 155 E. Bridge St.

Both were released with an appearance ticket returnable to Oswego City Court on Feb. 25.

“We are pleased with the results of the underage details that were recently conducted. Because we are planning on continuing with these types of investigations, information regarding which specific establishments were checked, and on what dates, is not being released,” said Police Chief Mike Dehm. “We hope that all of the establishments licensed to sell alcoholic beverages remain diligent in their efforts to help curb underage drinking.”
